Tehran, Ta. 09 July 2022 Saturday
A leading reformist activist and two filmmakers have been arrested in Iran. Among those arrested was former Deputy Home Minister Mustafa Tajzadeh. He has been accused of acting against national security and inciting the public by speaking falsely. Apart from him, filmmaker Mohammad Rasool and his accomplice Mustafa Ali Ahmed were also arrested on Friday.
Iran’s current Ibrahim Raisi government is currently facing public outrage. The prices of food and beverages in the country are sky high. There have also been protests over the issue. Ongoing talks with the United States on resuming the 2015 nuclear deal and lifting sanctions have also stalled. Mustafa Tajzadeh is considered a staunch opponent of the Iranian government.
Ruling on imprisonment for slandering Supreme Leader in Iran
Last week, he said Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei should be held responsible for the failure of the nuclear deal, the devastation of the economy and the plight of the people. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. Apart from Mustafa Tajzadeh, the arrested filmmaker Mohammed Rasoulaf and his accomplice Mustafa Ali Ahmed have been charged with working against security to have links with anti-government organizations.
