– Taiwan ready to fight to the end
– From former President George W. Bush to the Biden administration, the US has given piles of weapons to Taiwan.
Washington: Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan has escalated the tension between China and Taiwan, and now it has reached a war level. According to the Council of Foreign Relations of the US Parliament, Taiwan is a major market for US arms.
From former President George W. Bush to current President Joe Biden, no one has failed to provide arms to Taiwan. In the last 16 years, America has given more than five thousand million dollars worth of weapons to Taiwan. Hence it is clear that Taiwan is totally dependent on America to fight against China.
According to a report by the International Peace Research Institute, 77 percent of the weapons received by Taiwan from 1979 to 2020 were US-made. Between 2009 and 2017, during the time of former President Barack Obama, a total of 1400 million dollars worth of weapons were given to Taiwan. In 2019, the US signed an agreement to sell 66 F-16 fighter jets to Taiwan for $800 million.
The Taiwan government has also doubled its defense budget due to the Russia-Ukraine war. It has reached 1700 crores after increasing 860 crores in the budget.
Taiwan is also protecting itself by producing missiles and drones with the help of America. Taiwan will be able to build modern missiles in 2024-25. The Hsuing-Fang III cruise missiles currently being developed have a range of 1,000 to 1,200 km, which can easily attack China’s coastal zone. In July 2022, Taiwan signed an arms purchase agreement with the US worth $108 million. Therefore, Dragan asked America to stop giving arms to Taiwan, but America did not heed that threat. Taiwan, on the other hand, has declared that it is ready to fight to the end if attacked.
