– We must keep the area free from ‘geopolitical’ calculations: Chinese Foreign Minister
Jakarta: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has warned ASEAN countries against becoming pawns of superpowers. Speaking at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) ASEAN’s Jakarta status secretariat, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said many countries in the region were being pressured to take one side or the other, including for political reasons. Behind this is a clear political move by the superpowers.
In this context, Wang Yi said in his speech that the geopolitical calculations of the superpowers are behind this action and therefore the ASEAN countries should refrain from becoming pawns in the political chess of the superpowers and the pressure or greed that arises from it. The future of our region must remain in our hands. In this context, observers say, China itself is a superpower, and what about China, which wants to keep Indonesia and Vietnam “under its control” in one way or another, by luring it with money or by using force? India is also a member of this ‘ASEAN’ group. His ‘yard’ is not playing here. In fact, the leadership of the ASEAN countries is largely in the hands of India, which is pushing China, so Wang Yi does all these things.
